Sample Interview Questions for New Financial Hires in Governments

Governments frequently inquire about appropriate questions to ask during interviews of new finance department employees that will help them assess the candidate, as well as demonstrate the potential hire’s technical knowledge required for the job.
 
While it is recommended to include a written test, tailored to the level and position you’re interviewing for, during the hiring process (for which we will provide sample questions in an upcoming blog post), below we provide sets of sample questions for the face-to face questioning part of the interview – structured by the position level of the financial employee.

The sample interview questions are split into the following four levels of your finance department: ​
Finance Director (including Administrative Services Director, Chief Financial Officer, VP of Finance, etc.)
Finance Manager (including Accounting Manager, Controller, etc.)
Accountant (including Financial Analyst, Senior Accountant, etc.)
Accounting Clerk (including Junior Accountant, Accounting Assistant, Accounting Technician, etc.
